Society permission for home decoration in Pune: gate passes, timings and lifts

Updated 12 October 2026 · Pune

Most Pune high-rises need the decorator pre-approved in the visitor app or named at the gate before they will let them up with material. Add the society name, tower, flat number and the slot to your booking note and the gate clears without you being called down. Lift and noise rules matter more than permission itself.

Do you actually need permission?

For a decoration inside your own flat, no — you need entry for the decorator, which is a different thing. No Pune society we work with asks for written permission to put balloons on your own wall. What they ask for is to know who is coming up, when, and with what.

Permission in the real sense only comes up for common areas: the terrace, the clubhouse, the podium garden, the lobby. Those are booked through the committee, usually a week ahead, and often with a refundable deposit.

The four things a Pune high-rise will ask

  1. Pre-approval in the visitor app. MyGate and NoBrokerHood are near-universal in Wakad, Hinjewadi, Baner, Kharadi and Magarpatta. Approve the entry when it pings, or pre-add the visit for your slot.
  2. A name and a number at the gate. We send the decorator's name and phone on the confirmation call so you can add it before they arrive.
  3. Service lift only. Material goes up the service lift in most towers; in older buildings without one, the guard will often want it carried up the stairs instead.
  4. A timing window. Many societies stop material movement after 9 pm or during a quiet hour in the afternoon.

Where it tends to go wrong

  • The booking note has a flat number but no tower. In a six-tower society that costs fifteen minutes of a two-hour slot.
  • A surprise setup where the person being surprised is the one registered in the visitor app. Add a second resident or warn the guard.
  • Terrace bookings made the same day. The committee key-holder is rarely available at short notice.
  • Material in the passenger lift. Frames and curtain rolls are long, and a few towers insist they go up the service lift or the stairs — tell us if yours does.

What to put in the booking note

Society name, tower or wing, flat number, the nearest gate, and anything the guard will insist on. One line is enough: "Rohan Tarang, B wing, flat 1104, gate 2 off Datta Mandir Chowk, MyGate approval added." That single line is the difference between a decorator starting at 6 pm and starting at 6:25.

Rented flats and landlords

Nothing we put up is drilled, nailed or glued to a painted wall. Setups are fixed with low-tack tape, removable hooks or a free-standing frame. Taking the setup down is not part of the booking, but those fixings come off a painted wall without a mark whenever you are ready. If your landlord has asked for the walls to stay untouched, say so and the decorator will build on a frame rather than the wall.

Questions people ask

Do I need society permission for a balloon decoration in my flat in Pune?
No written permission is needed for a decoration inside your own flat. The society only needs to let the decorator in, which usually means approving the visit in MyGate or NoBrokerHood, or having their name at the gate.
What should I write in the booking note for a society flat?
Society name, tower or wing, flat number, the nearest gate and any guard instruction. One line covers it, and it is what stops the decorator being held at security during your slot.
Can you decorate the society terrace or clubhouse?
Yes, but the space itself has to be booked through your committee, usually about a week ahead and sometimes with a refundable deposit. We only need entry and the slot.
Will the decoration damage the walls of a rented flat?
No. Nothing is drilled or nailed. Setups go up on low-tack tape, removable hooks or a free-standing frame. Removal is not part of the booking, but everything comes off painted walls without a mark.
Does the decorator bring a gas cylinder into the building?
No. We do not use helium or any gas-filled balloons in any setup, for fire safety. Everything is air-filled and built on frames, curtains and ceiling fixings, so nothing restricted comes through the gate.
